DUH! Moment!

I’ve been plugging away at my  Somewhat cowl, which is great and I like but it’s done on size 5s, so I said to myself, I should take a Little break and make the tube toporini so I can wear it a time or two before summer is over! So I started swatching. 7s weren’t working, neither were 6s or 4s! I emailed the gals at Zephyr Style with a help email! I was sad because I was thinking I can’t use this yarn that I love the color of! I stared searching the web for others who have made it and looked at their picts., and notes. What was I doing wrong?!? DUH!!!!

I realized this morning that I was having a retardo moment! I do not think I should be allowed to swatch late at night or even be allowed to think about starting new projects then either! I was completely going the wrong way with my needles for gague! I should have been going up but instead was going down to smaller sizes DUH! At that point I couldn’t figure out why I kept getting more stitches instead of less! Right now I’m swatching on size 9s and am very close! Yeah I can use the yarn I wanted and had bought in the first place!

Gauge alwyas messes me up. I don’t know why I can never figure out the direction to go with the needles! So now I’m off the finish my swatch on 9s, and maybe try a 10. But Heather gave me some tips and alteration ideas so I may just go with the 9s! Wish me luck!!

Dyeing to be cool with Kool-Aid

Dsc00876Well my first attempt at dyeing yarn came out really fun.  I’m not sure what I’m going to do with the yarn, maybe felted purses or scarves…It was so easy and fun to do. I got directions form Knitty and kind of just went with it! Dsc00879

Here’s one skein.

Here’s the lovely little skeins drying on my deck! Anyway it was tons of fun.  I will try it again and thinking about my color choices a little more.   I wound the skeins into balls today and they are quite fun!

As for today I’m planning on sitting on my deck and working on my somewhat cowl

Sewing today

Today I finished a quilt!  Yippee! It is a block of the month I did at my local quilting shop.  I only have like 4 or 5 more BOMs to finish!  (Not counting the other 5 million or so other projects)Anyway I finished quilting it and put the binding on today.  It will be great in my family room this fall, whenever the cools down.(It’s about 90 today) I have to get DH to take some pictures so I can post them later!

I also went to the grocery to get Kool aid for my adventures in yarn dyeing I’m planning on trying tomorrow!  I was excited the Kool-Aid was on sale…20 for $2 whoo who! So I think I’m going to try that tomorrow.

Nicer weather finally

Well the weather had cooled off a bit, down in the mid 80s.  It seems cool compared to last week.  I actually got to sit out on my deck and knit awhile this afternoon.  My somewhat cowl is almost to where I will go around the armholes.  Yippee, I should be working on my Temping II but I haven’t.  I got some new yarn from Knit picks today, I’m going to try Kool Aid dyeing on some, probably for a scarf…I  just bought 2 skeins of the bulky to try it out..sounds fun.  We’ll see.  I was intrigued again after seeing Wendy’s adventures with it.  I also bought some lace weight yarn to try that out.  Never done any lace before….Wish me luck!

Wow it’s hot!

Well it’s still very warm here in Ohio.  We were supposed to have storms today and cool down.  It got real dark this morning sprinkled a little, then stopped. I thought I felt a slightly cooler breeze outside this afternoon, but not much.

Yesterday DH and I went to Cedar Point with his cousin from Florida and his girlfriend who were up visiting.  I thought I was going to melt!  On the plus side it was so hot that we didn’t have to wait in hardly any lines…which is amazing! If you know anything about Cedar Point you’d realize that waiting 20 minutes for Millennium Force is amazing.  Last time we were there we waited almost 2 hours.

Today I finished machine quilting a Block of the Month quilt (tomorrow the binding) and am now working on my somewhat cowl I am almost done with the raglan shaping.

Maybe I’ll get some pictures posted soon!

Hello

HI Well I am new to this whole blogging thing, but I’ve been enjoying reading others blogs so I thought I’d try to give it a go. I’ve been knitting for a couple of years and quilting for about 10.  I love quilting but it certainly isn’t very portable so I started knitting.  It is now my new obsession.
